Research: Media Forms

In order to study Media forms i looked at mediaknowall and at spark notes, looking at these sites allowed me to gather the most relevant information from both, and combine them to create this.

Books

The first printed books originated in the 15th century, as before that they were either written or printed by hand, which was costly and could take long periods of time to complete. Both of these factors made creating books expensive, making them quite rare, and unavailable to general people. Most of the early books were owned by monasteries and richer people. As monks contributed a great amount of work towards early books, most of these are religiously influenced.

Print Media

Some of the oldest forms of print media include magazines, journals, newspapers and newsletters. The number of people who read print media has slowly declined as technology takes over, however many citizens still read daily newspapers or magazines.

Images and Sound

Parisians Joseph Niepce and Louis Daguerre presented the first photographs in 1839 to the rest of the world, in the form of images captured on plates of metal. Later, in 1878 Thomas Edison created a device that recorded sound for later playback called the phonograph. More developments were made in 1895 when the Lumiere Brothers showed the first cinematograph show.

Broadcast

Broadcast media are news reports broadcast via radio and television, invented in the twentieth century. The first radio transmission was sent by an Italian man named Marconi in 1895, he also sent the first transatlantic transmission in 1901.Early transmissions could only be sent in Morse code. After Mass radio broadcasts became an easy and understandable form of communication, many inventors had ideas of broadcasting picture along with sound. Both John Logie Baird and Philo Farnsworth claim they invented such a thing in the 1920's. Television is now a staple way of finding out news and an enjoyable way to spend your time.

Internet

When Universities and Major Research Facilities started networking their computer systems in the 60's/70's, however the protocols for global networking were not used until 1982, and it was not expanded for general use until the 1990's. This new and exciting high level technology spread vastly and very quickly until almost everyone knew what the internet was and how to access it without instruction. In modern times the internet is used billions times every day by people all over the world and is one of the most commonly used ways of communicating to other people around the globe, no matter where they are.

My Favourite forms of Media

Moving Image Media: film, TV - Dramas, Sitcoms, Fantasy etc.  Music Video via YouTube, I also use Netflix and NowTV.
Still - Printed Media: I don't buy magazines to read and am aware they are available online. I tend to read posts that link to magazines via Facebook.
Radio - in the car!
Social Media: Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat.
